What’s to like:
James Franklin brings a proven track record of building successful football programs, and his arrival gives Virginia Tech an experienced leader as the Hokies begin a new chapter. His experience should help establish a consistent culture while raising expectations throughout the program.
There is also renewed optimism around Virginia Tech, thanks in part to improved recruiting efforts. The Hokies have started adding more talent to the roster, particularly through both recruiting and the transfer portal, giving the coaching staff a stronger group to build around. If that momentum continues, Virginia Tech should continue moving in the right direction.
What’s not to like:
One of the biggest challenges will be adjusting to a new system. Even experienced players need time to learn new terminology and responsibilities, and it may take several weeks before everything comes together on both sides of the ball.
The Hokies also enter the season with much higher expectations than they have had in recent years. Managing those expectations while adapting to a new coaching staff will be important if Virginia Tech hopes to make noticeable progress during the season.
