What’s to like:
Miami enters the season with plenty of optimism at quarterback. Darian Mensah gives the Hurricanes an experienced player at the position, and his ability to make plays should help keep the offense productive throughout the year. Having stability at quarterback is one of the biggest reasons Miami enters the season with high expectations.
The Hurricanes also continue to recruit at a high level, giving the roster talent across nearly every position group. That athleticism is especially noticeable at the skill positions, where Miami has multiple players capable of creating explosive plays. With another talented recruiting class and experienced contributors returning, the Hurricanes have the personnel to compete with anyone in the ACC.
What’s not to like:
Consistency on defense remains one of Miami's biggest concerns. The Hurricanes have plenty of talent, but there have been too many games where missed assignments and communication breakdowns have led to costly plays. Becoming more reliable defensively will be important if Miami hopes to contend for a conference title.
The Hurricanes also have to handle the expectations that come with being one of the ACC's most talented teams. Turnovers have hurt Miami in key moments over the past few seasons, and taking better care of the football will be critical in close games. Limiting mistakes could ultimately determine whether Miami reaches its full potential.
