2026 Purdue Football Preview

What’s to like:
Purdue enters the season with an experienced quarterback in Ryan Browne, and having a veteran under center should provide some stability for the offense. Browne has played enough football to understand the speed of the game, and his experience should help the Boilermakers avoid some of the growing pains that come with breaking in a new starter. If he takes care of the football, Purdue's offense should be more consistent than it was a year ago.
The Boilermakers should also be solid against the run. The defensive front has enough experience to hold up against the physical rushing attacks they'll see throughout the Big Ten, and there are several younger players on the roster who should continue to develop into larger roles. While Purdue is still building toward the future, there are pieces in place that give the coaching staff something to work with moving forward.
What’s not to like:
One area Purdue has to improve is creating turnovers. The defense simply didn't generate enough takeaways last season, allowing opponents to sustain drives and maintain momentum. Creating a few extra possessions each game would go a long way toward helping an offense that still has room for improvement.
The offense also needs to do a better job protecting the football and running it consistently. Browne has to limit turnovers, especially in close games, while the running game needs to become more reliable to take pressure off the passing attack. Until Purdue becomes more balanced offensively, it may struggle against some of the conference's better defenses.

Final Thoughts:
Purdue is still working toward becoming a more consistent football team, but there are reasons for optimism entering 2026. Ryan Browne gives the offense experience, and the defense should be competitive against the run. If the Boilermakers can protect the football and establish a stronger rushing attack, they should show progress as the season moves along.
