What’s to like:
P.J. Fleck has built one of the Big Ten's more stable programs, and Minnesota continues to benefit from that consistency. The Gophers know who they are as a football team, and that identity starts with being physical and fundamentally sound. While Minnesota may not recruit at the same level as some of the conference's top programs, it has consistently developed players and remained competitive.
The offensive line should once again be one of the team's biggest strengths. Minnesota returns a veteran group that has played a lot of football together, giving the offense valuable experience up front. The Gophers are also in good shape at defensive tackle, where they have the size and depth to compete against the physical rushing attacks they'll face throughout the Big Ten. If those two position groups play up to expectations, Minnesota should once again be difficult to play against.
What’s not to like:
The offense remains the biggest question entering the season. Minnesota struggled to consistently move the football last year, and too often the offense failed to sustain drives or create momentum. That put additional pressure on the defense and limited the team's ability to control games.
The Gophers also need to improve their time of possession and create more explosive plays. Long drives are difficult to sustain against quality defenses, and Minnesota has lacked the ability to consistently generate chunk plays when it needs them. Until the offense becomes more balanced and efficient, it will be difficult for the Gophers to compete with the top teams in the conference.

Final Thoughts:
Minnesota enters another season with an experienced roster and a program that has become one of the more consistent in the Big Ten under P.J. Fleck. The strength of the team remains its play in the trenches, but the offense has to show more consistency if the Gophers want to move up the conference standings. If Minnesota can generate more production on offense, another bowl appearance should be well within reach.
