What’s to like:
Iowa’s defense continues to be one of the most reliable units in college football. year after year, the Hawkeyes play fundamentally sound defense, tackle well, and force opponents to earn everything they get. That consistency has allowed Iowa to remain competitive regardless of personnel changes on offense.
The Hawkeyes also continue to play well in the trenches. Physical offensive and defensive line play has been one of the program’s biggest strengths for years, and Iowa rarely beats itself with penalties or costly mistakes. That disciplined approach gives them a chance to stay in games even when the offense isn’t playing its best. In close conference games, those small details often make the difference.
What’s not to like:
The offense continues to be the biggest concern. Explosive playmakers have been difficult to find, and too often the Hawkeyes have struggled to score points quickly. Without consistent big play threats, opposing defenses can crowd the line of scrimmage and make life even more difficult for the offense.
Quarterback play has also been inconsistent. While Iowa has been able to rely on its defense to win games, there are times when the offense simply needs someone to make a play through the air. Until the quarterback position becomes more dependable, it may be difficult for the team to compete.

Final Thoughts:
Iowa’s formula hasn’t changed. The Hawkeyes will rely on defense, physical line play, and limiting mistakes to stay competitive throughout the season. If the offense can becomes more consistent and crate more explosive plays, Iowa should once again be in position to compete for one of the better records in the conference.
