Sports betting is coming to Mississippi and we are ready to roll

Monday news broke that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a federal ban on sports betting and gaming; which will now open the flood gates around the country.

The State of Mississippi, among others are expected to be the first states to take center stage on this new ruling and as early as fall of 2018.

Raphael Esparza, who has over 20 years of sports handicapping experience and works with Doc Sports as a Vegas Sports Informer, joined the Drive on ESPN 105.9 to talk about this new ruling and you can hear that interview here.

This is definitely a game changer around the country and around the SEC foot print and should have positives for businesses, investors and the general public. We know the money spent on the NFL, NBA and other sports when you talk about sports gaming, but college football has grown by leaps and bounds the last two decades and may even be shoving the NFL aside moving forward.

Joe Drape of the New York Times wrote a piece last year titled, Among Bettors, College Football Is Shoving the N.F.L. Aside and in this article he states, "College and professional football remain the No. 1 betting attraction for gamblers in Nevada, accounting for nearly 37 percent of dollars wagered, said Michael Lawton, an analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
The board does not break out college and professional numbers in any sport. Anecdotally, he said, “it’s been a 60-40 split,’’ in favor of the pros. “But the colleges are gaining,” he added."

Nobody is putting this genie back in the bottle and we are ready to roll with this. It is one of the reasons we built this site and do what we do, to help you make smart football decisions, on straight up picks and against the spread.

Last year we picked over 500 power five games and hit 83 percent correct; while having an ATS winning percentage of 66 percent. We will have more on this in the coming months and how we can help, and you can ready tons of 2018 content right here - but you want to make smart decisions on who you listen to when it comes to picks.

Anyone can get on a microphone and flip pages in a magazine making predictions, but you want those to be smart, savvy and make sense. It's what we do here at the CFB Hour Glass.

In honor of sports betting coming to Mississippi and the Deep South - here are EIGHT opening weekend college football games and way to early lines for Labor Day based on our metric system.
